Casual encounter with IE8

March 19th, 2008

I tried out IE8 yesterday and after testing it for a few minutes, I promptly decided to go back to IE7.

Its not that I don’t like the new interface, I ran into serious problems with IE8. I am documenting the 3 errors below:

1. CSS rendering error with the background now rendered properly:

IE1

Compare that to the behavior of FF (works correctly in IE7 as well).

2. More problems with background color…This time the color is missing from the dynamic SezWho profile popup (click on the SezWho badge on the side with IE8 to reproduce)

Works on IE7 and FF

3. Javascript based positioning is messed up as the dom is not setup properly. This can be seen from the positioning of Confirmation popup that works great with IE7 and FF. (click on the yes or o button to rate a comment - see the details of the image)

Overall the new browser looks good but it still is a ways away from being GA ready.
